I had expected my plant haul for the month of November to be short and sweet. I figured I would behave myself out of the growing season, but as the days grow shorter and all of the green outside turns to murky brown, I’ve found myself inside my favourite nursery more often that not.
So, without further adieu, let me take you on the tour that is my November plant haul!
These two weren’t even a question— when I saw them at my local nursery, I knew immediately that they were coming home. They’d been on my wish list since I started this plant parenting hobby— born of coveting the beautiful specimens I would see while scrolling through instagram. Both are in 10” hanging pots— a lot larger than I probably had room for, but with some shuffling they both have prime spots in my south-west facing window.
This was a bit of an impulse buy. I had gone on a wine run— a friend and I were celebrating the start of our Christmas season (we start in November, because we’re super festive) and I had gone to get us some mulled wine for later in the evening while she picked up her daughter from school. On the way back I decided to stop in at Sheridan Nursery, which happens to be a little bit out of my way regularly but quite close to my friend’s house. Their 4” pots were all on sale, and these little peperomias were just SO cute. I found the orba to be quite unlike anything I had in my collection already, and the obtusifolia was such a lovely dark green (it almost had a burgundy tinge).
Marble Queen Pothos
These are my first doubles. I’m a little bit ashamed of myself for these purchases. BUT, I had just bought a new mirror/shelf thing and was really excited to style it and wanted certain plants that would trail/give height for a balanced look. So sue me.
I went back to the nursery for this guy after a family friend convinced me I couldn’t possibly go wrong with a boston fern (despite my penchant for killing ferns). He’d on the new shelf too, and damn does he ever look good.
Yep. I’ve done it. I’ve gone down to Hoya rabbit hole. The nursery had rooted Hoya Kerri variegata and I COULDN’T JUST LEAVE IT THERE! So, I might have paid 15$ for a single leaf.
… Then I went back and bought a Hoya Carnosa.
You know those memes where dogs are shamed by their owners for doing stupid things? I’m gonna start one where I am shamed by my spouse for buying plants for stupid reasons.
Maybe there will be no December plant haul… Maybe I’ll be good…
But I’m planning on going to the nursery shortly after this has been posted, so oh well.
